The Ultimate Guide to Attaching Your Charms

Already have a bracelet? Our charms can be added to virtually any chain. All hanging charms come with a sterling silver jump ring and a 5mm sterling silver split ring as standard, unless another attachment type is selected.

Charm attachment types overview

Charm Attachments

Each attachment type has its strengths. Lobster clasps are best for easy swapping, jump rings offer the most security, and split rings need no tools at all. Click any image to purchase — next-day shipping available.

Lobster clasp

Lobster Clasp

The easiest option — clip on, clip off. Perfect if you like to rearrange or swap charms frequently. We can attach any charm to a lobster clasp before dispatch.

Split ring

Split Ring

Like a miniature keyring — no tools required. Included with all hanging charms and very secure once threaded on.

Jump ring

No-Solder Jump Ring

Our standard attachment for maximum security. You'll need a small pair of pliers to open and close the ring — quick and easy once you get the hang of it.

Hanger bead

Hanger Bead

Converts any hanging charm into a bead charm — ideal for snake chain bracelets. Add one to your basket and we'll attach it for you.

Step-by-Step Guide

Instructions for attaching charms at home with a jump ring or split ring. Lobster clasps are self-explanatory — but get in touch if you need a hand.

With a No-Solder Jump Ring

  1. Use a no-solder jump ring (the jump rings supplied with charms are intended for soldering).
  2. Hold a pair of chain-nose pliers in each hand — any thin-nosed pliers will work.
  3. Grip one side of the jump ring firmly with your non-dominant hand, keeping the opening at the top. With your other hand, grip the opposite side.
  4. Push one side away from you and pull the other toward you to create a small gap. Don't pull outward — this weakens the ring.
  5. Slip the bracelet link through the gap, then reverse the motion to close the ring securely.

With a Split Ring

No tools required.

  1. Remove the charm from the manufacturer's jump ring (the ring it arrives on).
  2. Find the end of the split ring and use your fingernail to prise it open slightly — just like a keyring.
  3. Thread the charm all the way around the split ring until it sits securely.
  4. Repeat: prise the split ring open again and thread the bracelet link all the way around.
  5. Done — the charm is now double-secured to your bracelet.
